John Lewis are a great place to buy a washing machine from. They give at least 2 years guarantee on all washing machines and other appliances - and even 3 years on their own brand (plus 5 year guarantees on TV's).

DIY dishwasher repairs
Sorry, no diy dishwasher repair advice just yet. Frankly, dishwashers are a pain to work on and even most appliance engineers hate working on them. Unlike a washing machine, where you can very quickly take off the lid and the back panel dishwashers are often virtually sealed tanks and access to most parts is only available from underneath.
Many now have removable side panels which helps, but you need to take off the lid, the kick strip, the side panels and the base. They sometimes need completely stripping down to get to particular parts.
I wouldn't advise trying many diy dishwasher repairs.
